Review: Satan’s Whiskers

So we shook up a couple of Satan’s Whiskers last night — see post below on yesterday’s WSJ cocktail column — and they weren’t terrible. It was well suited for autumn, with the orange juice mixing with the vermouth to create a ciderish taste. Very interesting.
We substituted Triple Sec for Grand Marnier and I suspect our vermouth’s vintage may have been a factor.
VERDICT: B-; will revisit with fresher and better ingredients

Here, again, is the recipe:
½ oz gin
½ oz dry vermouth
½ oz sweet vermouth
½ oz freshly squeezed orange juice
½ oz Grand Marnier
1 dash orange bitters
Stir with ice until bitingly cold and then strain into a stemmed cocktail glass. Garnish with orange twist.
